The Collaboration

Whiskey JYPSI X GIBSON

Wood Selected For Performance. Destined For Whiskey.

This collaboration started with a question: What happens when wood shapes more than sound?

This question led us to partner with Gibson to create a limited-edition collaboration that brings together elite guitar craftsmanship and innovative whiskey-making. For years, guitar makers have recycled whiskey barrel wood to create unique instruments. We decided to do the reverse. Working with specialists at Gibson, we sourced maple tonewood directly from actual guitar offcuts that had been selected for clarity, resonance, and performance.

The wood is only wood until it arrives in a master’s hands. That rule applies to distillers, luthiers, and songwriters. I’m excited to see what song this collaboration between world-class masters will write

The Finishing Process

The Wood That Shapes Sound, Now Shapes Whiskey

Every element in the whiskey making process builds upon one another, eventually coming together to create a composition that is more than the sum of its parts. And both of these whiskeys in the Tonewood Collection are a testament to how beautifully unexpected components can harmonize with one another.

Both Tonewood: Vol. 1 and Tonewood: The Collective interacted with maple offcuts from Gibson’s guitar construction, staves that were cut to precise formats, toasted to a defined level, and introduced after blending. These toasted Gibson maple offcuts deliver a deeper, more concentrated flavor profile to Vol. 1’s bold blend of older whiskeys, resulting in a warm palate with a long, structured finish. In The Collective, maple works to soften the palate, brighten the sweetness, and bring a more open, expressive character to the blend.
